I have an MFA in Directing (UT-Austin) and a PhD in Performance Studies (UNC-Chapel Hill). I've been teaching at Duke University since 2005 (first-year courses in academic writing, which was my first path to using blogs and multi-modal projects in the classroom; now courses in Theater Studies from play analysis to adaptation to acting). I will be part of a new first-year experiential learning cluster -- Performance and New Media -- in fall of 2013 and teaching a new course: Digital Dramaturgies: Storytelling past, present, & future. I'm a Southeast regional coordinator for the American Theater Archive Project and have been working with colleagues in pursuit of productive digital domains for the curation of theater performance work. I find myself drawn equally to Žižek & Tim Gunn memes, but I have only one man's writings on my bookshelves. I confess I'm not a gamer, that is, outside the interactive, first-person experience of theater production. I'm also interested in the relationship between experimentation across science and the performing arts and what role technology plays (as a science? a performing art? a tool?) in drawing those disciplines together or pushing them further apart, especially when experimentation includes not simply narrative content but form. julesoj.com is my personal website (undergoing some construction right now). and @naturalreadhead is my personal Twitter Feed.
